The 2015 General
Elections in Nigeria have been considered to be mother of all elections by most
Nigerians and international community. As months have turned to weeks or days,
many Nigerians are looking forward to an interesting moment in the nation’s
history and the presidential election is seen as a battle royale between the
incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the Candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.).
To some people,
the Katsina State-born former military head of state is the best man for the
job in Aso Rock as the 2015 General Elections draw closer. But to some others,
Buhari should not be trusted with the destiny of the country after many years
of trials and errors, which discerning minds feel would make life uncomfortable
for millions of Nigeria.
Just as many
people might feel Buhari should be given a chance to prove his worth as he is contesting
the presidential election for the fourth consecutive time, some damaging stories
are pointing to the fact that the former head of state should not be allowed to
become the president of Nigeria in the 2015 election. Placing Buhari side by
side of President Goodluck Jonathan, they maintained that Jonathan would be a
better choice for the country in 2015.
It was alleged that
Buhari was in full support of all the atrocities of the late Gen. Sani Abacha
against the Nigerian people.
Sources maintained
that there is no single record of his criticism of Sani Abacha during those
dark days when Nigeria was on precipice.
“It shows that he
is a patriot of convenience. In fact on the 10th anniversary of Abacha’s
demise, Buhari said that Abacha stole nothing from Nigeria despite millions of dollars
recovered from banks around the world and the Abacha family signing a formal
agreement to return over $1 billion dollars, Buhari still said that Abacha’s
stealing remains an unproved allegation!!!Why? Because Abacha set Buhari up
like an emperor and let him use oil money from theNiger Delta to develop the
North without supervision or questions,” said a source.
Buhari reportedly supervised
the smuggling of 53 suitcases filled with cash through the MMA against the
protest of General Tunde Idiagbon and ironically Abubakar Atiku, the then
Director General of Customs, who later became the Vice President and a
compromised politician himself. This smuggling of the suit cases were
supervised by buharis ADC, Col. Mustapha Jokolo.
It was alleged
that Buhari does not accommodate women in the scheme of things and that he
never had any woman in his cabinet. A source also faulted Buhari for announcing
that he would scrap the office of the First Lady if elected into office in
2015.
One of our
sources, who instructed that his name must not be published, pointed to the
obnoxious Decree 4 by Buhari against which truth was no defence, and which was
used to jail journalists, an alleged attempt to shut-up the media as a whole.
“That tyrannical
legislation of buhari shows the essence of his intolerance…..He jailed Ndukar
Irabor and Tunde Thompson of “The Guardian” on stories that were factually
true. He again told Nigerian journalists then that, it did not matter whether
the story reported was true or not, if his regime did not like it, the writer
would go to jail. facts of recent history.
“Mrs. Vera Ifudu,
who was an NTA reporter, was sacked on Buhari’s orders as military ruler, for
reporting what Dr. Olusola Saraki had told her in an interview about how the
missing, $2.8 Billion money, while buhari was petroleum minister, was traced to
Buhari’s account at Midland Bank, London branch. In view of this, OBJ scraped
PTF over Buhari’s misappropriation. Vera eventually won her case in court after
providing evidence, and was financially compensated,” he said.
We also stumbled
on a report, which had it that Buhari convinced all the northern political
leaders against allowing the National Identity card program because according
to him, this would unravel the myth of Northern population majority.
Sources said that has
never been able to account to Nigerians what he did with the 20 billion Naira
of the Petroleum Trust Fund of which he was the chairman under Sani Abacha.
Also, He has not been able to point to any project he prosecuted outside
Northern Nigeria with the trust fund.
“Buhari, as part
of his tribalistic practices, placed President Shagari under house arrest
inside a palatial mansion in Ikoyi, while he locked up Shagari’s Vice, Alex
Ekwueme in Kirikiri Prison.Shagari is Hausa/Fulani like him while Alex Ekwueme
is an Igboman. Ikemba Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, another Igboman who had just
returned from 13 years of exile in 1982, following a pardon by then president,
Shehu Shangri, was as well locked up in KiriKiri Prison by Buhari. Till this
day, we are not told what Ojukwu’s offence was. Buhari discriminated against
persons from other ethnic groups/faiths; and as PTF chairman, he employed an
overwhelming numberof Fulani/Hausa/Moslem people at the detriment of other
groups and concentrated PTF projects in the North. If in doubt, read El Rufai’s
book,” said one of the sources.
Buhari, according
to a source, snubbed the same Nigerians he now wants their votes by refusing to
appear before Justice Oputa “Truth and Reconciliation Panel.” Despite the fact
that Buhari knew how important reconciliation is to the stability of democracy,
buhari has never apologised at anytime.
“Buhari after
locking up Sam Mbakwe, who was governor of Imo State, from October 1, 1979 to
Dec 31, 1983 in jail, he went for one of Mbakwe’s wives. He established himself
for what he was/is letting Mbakwe receive in jail, news of the death of another
of Mbakwe’s two wives. He is an Islamic fundamentalist, who told his northern
followers never to vote for anyone who was not a muslim and he is a coup plotter
who overthrow a civilian government.
“He is an oligarch
who does not believe in equality before the law. The way he jailed Lateef
Jakande, Jim Nwobodo, Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ayo Ojewumi on cases that had
no foundation and allowed Awwal Ibrahim, the then Niger State governor, who was
arrested in Heath row Airport in London with 14 million (Pounds sterling) and
several millions of Naira and dollars to be under house arrest is my evidence.
(Ayo Ojewumi became blind as a result of his imprisonment over false charges
and died shortly after),” said a source, who simply said he should be referred
to as Daniel.
One other reason
adduced for the call not to allow Buhari rule Nigeria was an allegation that against
all canons of legal decency, Buhari executed Lawal Ojuolape (30),
BernardOgedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26).
“To put it quite
plainly, one of those three –Ogedengbe – was executed for a crime that did not
carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. After the military
government of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari took power, Prof Ambrose Ali, one
time governor of (Bendel) state, who had already retired from politics, was
arrested and sentenced to 100 years in prison by buhari’s military tribunal
over trumped up charges. He was finally freed when the Esama of Benin, Chief
Gabriel Igbinedion, paid a fine to buhari’government. Ambrose Ali died shortly
after his release.
“Gen Buhari
allowed Shehu Kangiwa, the then Sokoto State Governor from 1979-1981, who
conducted and supervised the famous “Bakolori Massacre” of poor peasant
farmers, whose lands were seized without compensation, to remain under a very
comfortable house arrest, without punishment or proper imprisonment,” said one
Mr. Adewale, who added that a vote for Buhari is a vote for another round of
northern hegemony.
Buhari’s CPC
loyalists were said to have massacred and lynched Nigerian youth corpers after
the 2011 election.
“A refined
politician is expected to tender an apology on behalf of the ignorant
loyalists, buhari refused to apologise. He said, the mob were angry because
they felt the election was rigged. Is that sufficient to take the life of
another?
“Buhari pretended
to have forgotten, his CPC party, rigged the election by registering under aged
voters. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
“On the 4th of
September, 1984, minutes before leaving Nigeria for an extensive tour of the
US, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was arrested at the airport of Lagos on orders of
Buhari and was jailed for 5 years, on bogus charges under emergency law
initiated by dictator buhari, which prompted the sentencing judge to later
confess that, he was ordered to do so and apologized to Fela. Get Fela’s (Army
Arrangement) song for more expose’.
“Mallam El-rufai
who now sings Buhari’s praise famously said on Oct, 5th 2010 that ” General
Buhari is perpetually unelectable because his record as military head of state
and afterwards, is a warning that many Nigerians in the past have wisely
heeded. His insensitivity to Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus are
already well-known.”
“El-Rufai again
said: “I was 25 years old when Buhari was Head of State and now am 50+ and he
still wants to be President, I don’t understand that, i don’t understand that
at all and I call on young people of Nigeria to take their future into their
hands and ensure in the next election, they vote for a new generation of
leaders,” one of our sources added.
