The death of popular Lagos big boy and night club
entrepreneur, Akeem Shodehinde is still a shock to the people, who knew him and
his admirers.
News of his death came suddenly and it was reported that the
flamboyant man-about-town succumbed to the cold hands of death in the wee hours
of Sunday, May 10, 2015.
The bubbly Akeem who was the toast of many night crawlers on
Lagos Island, we gathered had been battling a chronic kidney disease for the
past six years.
We gathered that Akeem had been bedridden for quite some
time before he died in his Victoria Island, Lagos home.
Before Akeem passed on, he was regarded as the king of night
clubs in Lagos as he held the magic wand to pull night crawlers into his clubs.
Some of the clubs Akeem operated included Xtreme Night Club, Reloaded and
Movida Night Club.
The ‘General’ or ‘Biggie’ as many of his socialite friends
called him in Lagos Island, Victoria Island and Ikoyi had gone through this
sickness different times and he usually bounced back like a cat with nine
lives.
Sources revealed that the family of the popular club operator and former business partner of Joseph Yobo were preparing to fly him abroad before he succumbed to death, thus ending a life filled with joy and razzmatazz.
Akeem had a brief marital life with his ex-wife, Chioma and
he is survived by a daughter.
Akeem Shodehinde was a bouncer at social events in Lagos.
Before starting his own outfits, he worked with the likes of Sola Olugbemiro,
popularly known as Solkem.
The late socialite once confessed that he attempted suicide
several times, when he was indebted to many private individuals. He thanked
Prince Segun Oniru and Dumo Lulu Briggs and others, who saved him from the
financial mess then.
Akeem Shodehinde shot into the limelight, when his hangout,
Club Xtreme became the meeting point of most rich kids on the Island. The club
was operated from Planet 44 owned by Kamal Boustani on Akin Adesola Street,
Victoria Island. The club was shut down after Akeem became terribly sick.
Akeem Shodehinde bounced back, when he started Club Reloaded
with Ahmed Uhubetine of 11:45 Club and Joseph Yobo, a football star married to
ex-beauty queen, Adaeze Igwe.
Yobo was the major investor in the business. It was gathered
that the club was officially opened on December 6, 2006 at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi,
Lagos.
Akeem and Ahmed fell apart as business partners. But Yobo
and Akeem changed the name of the club to Insomnia. However, Insomnia Club was
shut down after some time.
Akeem was married to a beautiful girl from Rivers State, but
it didn’t last. Akeem said that everything was wrong from the start. They had
to separate within a short time.
Akeem Shodehinde’s unfilled dreams before his death include
not waiting till his only daughter wedding day. The girl is still small and
Akeem said he was leaving street life of gambling and slowing down on alcohol
so that he won’t die and not be able to see his daughter get married.
