The lender said the move was meant to drive the growth of the economy of the state and the nation through programmes aimed at empowering young graduates from the state’s tertiary institutions.
The Vice President, Strategy and Human Resources, FCMB, Felicia Obozuwa, spoke in Lagos at the graduation ceremony of some students of the lender’s empowerment programme.
A total of 500 students participated in the pilot scheme of the entrepreneurship initiative. They were drawn from the Lagos State University, Lagos State Polytechnic and Lagos State College of Health Technology.
According to her, the objective of the programme is to equip the graduates with critical skills that will make them employable or become job creators.
She said a number of them would be employed by the bank on a short-term basis for necessary exposure.
Obozuwa, who commended the Lagos state government for the initiative, said, “FCMB is very proud to partner with Lagos State government today. It’s part of our vision to empower young graduates and develop their employability skills.
She said, “And we are also proud to take 10 of them to be interns with us for six months in order to acquire some experiences and necessary skills to make them startups and be very successful in their various careers.”
“So, we’ll like to commend Lagos state government headed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for this very good initiative that would see a lot of our graduates getting ahead, starting careers in Lagos State.
“We crave other states to take a cue from this initiative so that the whole country can see that our graduates are empowered and develop skills to make them employable.”
