Nokia Brings Competition To 'Selfies' With Its New 'Bothie' Phones

Mobile phone manufacturers Nokia are bringing a new phase of selfies with their new Nokia 8 phones. The Nokia 8, which will be released in September, has a new feature called the “Dual-Sight” mode which is the first in history.
This allows you to take photos simultaneously using the front and back cameras to create a split-screen visual.

Nokia terms it a Bothie to reflect the single photo and videos taken from both sides.
I wonder if Bothie can overtake the term selfie.
The phone’s 13-megapixel front and rear cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics.
They have a high-powered audio technology feature and can livestream dual videos to Facebook and Youtube by the touch of a button.

The Dual-Sight feature can also be used for streaming video live on Facebook and YouTube.
The point of it is so that you can see the person and what they are talking about in a video.
So, for example, tourists could use it when visiting different countries or towns as an alternative to traditional selfies.

A Nokia spokesman said: ‘Be less selfie, be more bothie. There are two sides to every story and the Dual-Sight feature of Nokia 8 is designed to help you create and share the full picture.’

Nokia is now under licence to HMD Global, a Finnish start-up, which sparked the firm’s revival earlier this year with the launch of three mid-range Android phones – the Nokia 3,5 and 6, as well as a revamped version of the 17-year-old 3310.
The new phone also has spatial audio technology previously only used in Nokia’s high-end OZO 360 camera, which can play back sound in multiple directions, imitating how it was captured during recording.
HMD Global confirmed the phone will go on sale in ‘early September’ and said the device was aimed at social media users and video creators.

HMD chief product officer Juho Sarvikas said: ‘We know that fans are creating and sharing live content more than ever before, with millions of photos and videos shared every minute on social media.
‘People are inspired by the content they consume and are looking for new ways to create their own.
‘It’s these people who have inspired us to craft a flagship smartphone which perfectly balances premium design, an outstanding experience and powerful performance.’

Nokia and HMD Global’s unveiling comes a week before Samsung is due to announce their next Note smartphone, the first since the Note 7 was discontinued last year over battery fires and safety fears.
The next iPhone, marking 10 years since the device first launched, is also expected to be announced in September.

Let’s see how this will fare.
