    Ugandans Run 5km In Colour To Promote Child Literacy

    Hundreds of Ugandans run five kilometers at the annual Kampala Color Fun Run in the capital to promote reading culture among children by raising a million books to stock community libraries.
    The runners were showered with coloured powder at every kilometer of the run until the finish point at the Kyadondo Rugby Club on September 10 where they engaged in parties and other games.
    The Color Run was created from the Hindu festival of colours known as Holi. The festive colours used during Holi are a sign of winter’s end and spring’s new beginnings.

    The Color Run is organised in several countries and the events have no winners or prizes.
    This year’s run in Kampala is in partnership with Smart Toto, a local movement campaigning to raise one million books to reach out to one million children.
    They plan on stocking libraries in all districts with the books starting with the Kaleke Kasome Foundation library in Mpigi.
    This is the first of three Color Fun Runs in the country this year with the two others to be held in other regions.
    The first-ever Color Fun Run was held in 2015 to create cancer awareness in the communities.
