    StarTimes Partners NUJ To Train Female Journalists

    StarTimes Nigeria, in partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists, FCT Chapter is organising a three-day training and workshop for women in journalism. The training, titled; Gender Equality and Safety is a joint project of NUJ in collaboration with the Norwegian Union of Journalists and the Federation of African Journalists and fully sponsored by StarTimes Nigeria.

    Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer, StarTimes Nigeria, Mr Justin Zhang commended the initiative of the NUJ and other participants, while stressing the need for gender equality, mutual respect and safety in the work place.
    According to him; “StarTimes recognises the need for gender balance in the work place. We have in time past identified values sectors internally where women and men are equal especially in positions held.” Zhang added that; “The first CEO of StarTimes Nigeria is a woman and this is because the company recognises and reward hard work, not minding gender. “We are today sponsoring this event because we understand the need for safety in our environment and do not underestimate the importance of gender equality to growth.
    We consider safety and security very important and do all we can to ensure that our staff and partners are safe when at work.’’ This is why we are spreading our operations to Maiduguri, Borno State from Friday, December 1, at a time when many businesses are shying away from the North East. Also commenting, the National President, Nigeria union of Journalists, Comrade Waheed Odusile noted that the importance of the training cannot be over emphasised. He commended the partners and sponsors of the training for their commitment to professionalism, safety and gender balance in journalism.
