Google are celebrating the occasion with a very special doodle on the homepage of their search engine. However this year’s Mother’s Day could be overshadowed by the growing coronavirus crisis which is engulfing the nation.
The holiday which occurs every March 22 is celebrated by Christians on the fourth Sunday in Lent, a day to visit and share good tidings with one’s mother.
It is usually celebrated by English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Ireland amongst many others.
Some people believe that ”Mothering Sunday” had nothing to do with celebrating mothers during its inception in the 17th century but to return to their home ‘mother’ church for baptism.
The highlight of the doodle is the large smiling sunflower, which signifies the love and bond between a mother and child. The sunflower smiles down at its three little seeds.
