How Yellow Turned Purple For Women On IWD 2020

A wise person once said “If it is bland, chances are no woman was there” and there are no truer words because women add flavour and colour to life. Women at Y’ello spared nothing as they commemorated the 2020 International Women’s Day. Elegantly clad in purple attires, they joined women around the world to push the ‘Each for Equal’ campaign at the Penthouse, MTN Head office in Ikoyi.

Esther Akinnukawe, Chief Human Resource Officer, MTN Nigeria, in her welcome address described the journey to achieving Gender Equality as a long, slow yet totally worthy cause. She spoke on the efforts of Women at Y’ello (W.A.Y) to address the peculiarities of a professional woman in the workplace and the struggle to chart the cause for equality. “The responsibility is on us to ensure that we continue to give a hundred and one per cent by playing our roles to promote the objectives before us.”

Investment expert and Chief Executive Officer of Chapel Hill Denham, Mobolaji Balogun shared his thoughts on the theme ‘Each for Equal’ as he took guests through the intricacies of gender equality and the prospects of inclusion in contributing to the development of sustainable economies.

The feedback from the audience ranged from questions on tackling gender-based violence, unfair policies in the workplace, to stories on how stereotypes about the female gender had caused hardship and suggestions on how to handle such situations.
