He further disclosed that they were motivated to do the donation this time in realisation of the fact that the government alone could not carry the weight of the lockdown of the people.

Dosunmu also said that the Club was formed 46 years ago and that they were at the state secretariat on behalf of the Grand Patron, HRM Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Akiolu 1, Oba of Lagos, the other Patrons, Elders and entire members of the Club for the donation in order to assist to cushion the effects of the lockdown arising from COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He asserted that if not for proactiveness of the Governor of Lagos State, the present situation might be worse than this.

The President disclosed that the  Club was not on any subvention, but thought it very necessary to come with its widows mite of N5m to Lagos State Government.

“Eko Club, being a foremost indigenous club comprising of many well-to-do individuals realise that we cannot leave government alone to face the hurdle associated with the total lockdown of the people, especially bearing in mind that aside from the present COVID-19 pandemic, government is equally responsible for provision of many other things for the citizenry, hence our decision to also come to the aid of the Lagos State government, hence the donation of the cheque”, Ade-Dosunmu said.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Lagos State government, the State’s Commissioner for Finance, Dr Rabiu Olowo, expressed appreciation of the government and thanked the entire members of the club for deeming it fit to assist the government, especially at this time of the pandemic.

He, however, urged other socio-cultural clubs in the state to emulate Eko Club for being the first Social Club to donate in order to assist to cushion the effects of the lockdown arising from COVID-19 pandemic.
