553 COVID-19 Cases Recorded in Nigeria, Total Infections Hit 9855

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria increased to 9855 on Saturday as 553 new infections were reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
While 35 states, and Federal Capital Territory  have reported at least one confirmed case.

The reported death toll rises to 273, as twelve people were confirmed dead of the virus within 24 hours, the centre said.

NCDC also said a total of 2856 patients have recovered from the infection, as 159 patients were discharged after been clear of the disease on Saturday.

The 553 new cases are reported from 14 states and Federal Capital Territory.

Lagos, the epicentre for the disease reported the highest figure of cases confirmed on Saturday with 378 infections, followed by FCT with 52 cases and Delta with 23 cases.

Other states with new cases of the COVID-19 infections cases are: Edo with 22 cases, Rivers reported 14 cases, Ogun confirmed 13 cases and Kaduna reported 12 cases.

While Kano state confirmed nine cases of the virus, Borno reported seven, Katsina reported six cases, Jigawa and Oyo confirmed five cases each, Yobe and Plateau reported three cases each and Osun with one cases.

Nigeria has so far tested 60,825 persons since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the centre.

No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
Till date, 9855 cases have been confirmed, 2856 cases have been discharged and 273 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Saturday it had activated an additional lab to its Molecular Laboratory Network.
The Bauchi State Reference Molecular Laboratory is the 29th of its kind in the country.

In a tweet via its official handle, the health agency said two more laboratories, in Kwara and Gombe, are in progress.
