    COVID-19: Total Infections Rises to 7,261 As Nigeria Reports 245 New Cases

    The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that the Nigeria’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 7,261 on Friday, after 245 new infections were recorded in the country.

    NCDC also reported the discharge of 100 people, raising the number of successfully recovered patients to 2,007

    While number of fatalities also increased by 10 taking the country’s death toll from the virus to 221

    Nigeria has so far tested 41,907 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on 27 February 2020, when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive for the virus, caused by SARS-CoV-2.

    The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    All the reporting states already had at least a case of the virus.

    There was a decrease in the number of infections reported on Friday 245 compared to the number reported on Thursday 339.

    Lagos State remains the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria and also reported the highest daily figure of infections on Friday followed by Jigawa and Ogun with 131, 16 and 13 cases respectively.

    Other states with new cases include: Borno with twelve cases, Kaduna, Oyo, Rivers and Ebonyi reported nine cases each, Kano had eight cases, Kwara recorded seven cases, Katsina reported five cases, while Akwa Ibom and Sokoto confirmed three cases each.

    Bauchi and Yobe recorded two cases of the virus, Anambra, Gombe, Niger, Ondo, Plateau, FCT and Bayelsa reported one case each.

    On the 22nd of May 2020, 245 new confirmed cases and 10 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
    Till date, 7261 cases have been confirmed, 2007 cases have been discharged and 221 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
