Nigeria Reports 182 COVID-19 Infection, Total Cases Now 8,915

In the latest update of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria, 182 new cases have been reported as of late Thursday May 28th by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The total infections for the country now stand at 8,915

The reported death toll rose to 259, as five people were confirmed dead within 24 hours, the centre said

NCDC also said 2,592 patients have recovered from the virus infection, while 35 states including Federal Capital Territory have reported at least one confirmed.

The country has so far tested 49,966
persons since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the health agency.

NCDC data shows that the new cases were spread across 15 states and Federal Capital Territory. Lagos accounting for the highest number of infections for the day with 111 cases.

In a tweet via its official handle, the NCDC reported that 16 of the new cases were found in FTC, 10 in Akwa Ibom, 8 in Oyo, while Kaduna and Delta reported 6 cases.

Rivers state confirmed five cases of the virus infection, Ogun and Ebonyi reported four cases each, Kano confirmed three cases, Plateau, Kwara and Gombe reported 2 cases each, while Kebbi, Bauchi and Borno confirmed one cases each.

No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
Till date, 8915 cases have been confirmed, 2592 cases have been discharged and 259 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

However, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, gives a press briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic in Abuja.

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has decried the rather careless manner in which many Nigerians have been handling the COVID-19 advisories, thereby putting themselves at risk and endangering the lives of others.

While addressing reporters in Abuja on Thursday, the PTF Chairman, Mr Boss Mustapha, warned citizens against complacency, even as the government tries to strike a balance between life of citizens and the economy.

He said there are worries regarding the shift being experienced as regards countries now having higher burdens of the virus, stressing that Nigeria has become an epicentre and that should give everyone concern.

“We cannot continue to live as if there is no more threat,” Mr Mustapha warned.

The SGF condemned recent developments in which some hospitals have been turning down non COVID-19 patients.

He said the practice is unacceptable as there are several other diseases killing more people than the coronavurus.

Mr Mustapha revealed that the PTF will soon complete its assessment on the first phase of the ease of lockdown and will submit its recommendations to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The PTF Chairman urged Nigerians not to let their guards down, stressing that defeating the virus takes a conscious collective effort from both citizens and the government.
