    Over 4,000 Cases Confirmed, as Nigeria Reports Additional 239 New COVID-19 Infections

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 239 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) late Saturday as the total cases confirmed rose to 4,151

    The public health agency's report also indicated 745 people infected with the virus have recovered and so far discharged while 128 have sadly lost their lives to the disease.

    The public health agency in a tweet Saturday night said the new cases were reported in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    The recent report on its Twitter page highlighted the breakdown of the confirmed cases per states: 97-Lagos, 44-Bauchi, 29-Kano, 19-Katsina, 17-Borno, 7-FCT, 6-Kwara, 5-Oyo, 3-Kaduna, 3-Sokoto, 2-Adamawa, 2-Kebbi, 2-Plateau, 2-Ogun, 1-Ekiti

    While Lagos State remains the epicentre for the disease in the country, cases in Bauchi and Kano states have continued to increase significantly.

    Meanwhile, Lagos State which was reported by the NCDC to have confirmed 97 new cases has expressed concern over the increasing number of runaway patients tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, describing it as “disturbing.”

    Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, recently made the remark, during a media briefing on the update of COVID-19 situation in the state, held in Alausa, Ikeja.

    The total confirmed cases in Lagos State as at Saturday now 1,764

    NCDC while advising Nigerians on the preventive measures for the coronavirus disease reiterated the importance of physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and the wearing of face mask in public.

    On the 9th of May 2020, 239 new confirmed cases and 11 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
    Till date, 4151 cases have been confirmed, 745 cases have been discharged and 128 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
