Following the confirmation of 463 new cases in the Nigeria, the coronavirus infection toll rose to 33,616 The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this on Tuesday night.

NCDC also said 121 coronavirus patients have recovered and discharged. While 10 fatalities were recorded on Tuesday night. 

The health agency in a tweet on its official handle disclosed that the new cases spread across 16 states and Federal Capital Territory, with Lagos Leading the chart as usual recorded 128 cases, while Kwara occupied the second spot with 92 cases, Enugu, Delta and Edo confirmed 39, 33 and 29 respectively. 

Other states with new cases include: Plateau-28, Kaduna-23, Oyo-15, Ogun-14 Osun-14, FCT-12, Ondo-9, Rivers-9, Abia-8, Bayelsa-5, Ekiti-3 and Borno-2.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 186,309 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

Data obtained from the agency’s website showed that on the 14th of July 2020, 463 new confirmed cases and 10 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. 
Till date, 33,616 cases have been confirmed, 13,792 cases have been discharged and 754 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.


According to NCDC, the most affected states are Lagos with 12,711 infections-175 deaths, FCT with 2,687 infections-39 deaths, Oyo with 1,882 infections-19 deaths and Edo with 1,807 infections-60 deaths.

While River had a total of 1,397 infections-46 deaths, Delta with 1,392 infections-34 deaths, Kano with 1,314 infections-52 deaths, Ogun with 1,105 infections-22 deaths and Kaduna with 1,039 infections-12 deaths.

Other states with COVID-19 cases in Nigeria are yet to reach an ominous 1,000 milestone since the first confirmed case in Nigeria was announced on 27 February 2020, when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive for the virus.

The West African nation of 200 million people is struggling to tackle the outbreak because of its poor healthcare system.

The government eased virus restrictions on June 30 by permitting inter-state travel. Domestic flights resumed a week later.

On Monday, federal government released guidelines for the safe reopening of schools and learning facilities after the COVID-19 pandemic. But the contagion appears not to be going away anytime soon.
