£43m Manchester City Star Makes Comment About Liverpool’s Champions League Exit

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has insisted to the London Evening Standard that Liverpool exiting the Champions League does not benefit them.

City and Liverpool have been the two strongest teams in England this year, but they won’t be meeting in the Champions League in the coming days.

Liverpool were knocked out of the competition by Atletico Madrid just before the Champions League was stopped.

City, meanwhile, have continued to progress well in the competition – with Pep Guardiola’s side set to take on Lyon on the quarter-finals in Saturday.

But Bernardo insists that he doesn’t think Liverpool’s exit has made City’s route to winning the competition for the first time any easier.

“The fact that Liverpool are out, Real Madrid are out, it’s not going to make our path easier. That would be a wrong thought,” the £43 million midfielder (BBC Sport) said.

“We need to go game by game, be very focused, knowing that every game is going to be very tough.

“All the teams in Lisbon are here because they deserve it. We need to be at our best level to win the games and try to reach the final.”

City actually lagged behind Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

But their focus is now firmly placed on winning their first ever Champions League trophy.

Liverpool are, of course, the current holders of the competition – but Jurgen Klopp’s side just could not find a way past Atleti over two legs this time around.

Diego Simeone’s side will actually be in action in their quarter-final this evening, when they take on RB Leipzig.
