    COVID-19: Nigeria Hit Another Milestone with Over 50,000 Confirmed Cases

    Nigeria hit another milestone this week with over 50,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 .
    Nigeria’s COVID-19 infections reached another milestone on Wednesday as Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC reported 593 new infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 50,488.

    Four deaths were recorded from the virus, taking the total number of confirmed deaths from the virus to 985.

    Having fully recovered and tested negative to COVID-19, NCDC has announced the discharged of 253 new patients, bringing the number of successfully recovered patients to 37,304

    Nigeria has so far tested 363,331 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    With the latest update, Plateau recorded the highest number of cases with 186 infections, followed by Lagos which recorded 172 cases, FCT, Oyo and Delta states recorded 62, 27 and 25 cases respectively.

    Other states affected by the virus on Wednesday include: Rivers-20, Ondo-19, Edo-18, Kaduna-17, Enugu-12, Akwa Ibom-10, Ogun-7, Abia-6, Gombe-6, Kano-3 and Osun-3.

    On the 19th of August 2020, 593 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    Till date, 50,488 cases have been confirmed, 37,304 cases have been discharged and 985 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
