    Nigeria's COVID-19 Cases Rise to 50,964 as 476 People Test Positive

    Nigeria’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 infections on Thursday night rose to 50,964 as 476  new cases were announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
    The NCDC disclosed this on its verified Twitter handle.

    Seven death was recorded from the virus, the number of recovered and discharged patients from the virus is also increased by 265

    The agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
    Lagos accounts for the highest number of the infections reported with 235 cases, 44 cases in  FCT, 41 cases in Kaduna and 33 cases in Borno

    Other states with new cases as follows: Plateau-28, Abia-13, Edo-13, Rivers-12, Imo-11, Oyo-10, Kano-9, Kwara-7, Enugu-5, Katsina-5, Gombe-4, Ogun-4, Nasarawa-1 and Zamfara-1.

    Nigeria has so far tested 366,244 persons since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    On the 20th of August 2020, 476 new confirmed cases and 7 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    Till date, 50,964 cases have been confirmed, 37,569 cases have been discharged and 992 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has launched a digital platform to ensure speedy delivery of COVID-19 results in the Federal Capital Territory.

    Mrs Elsie Ilori, Head of Department, Surveillance and Epidemiology Department, NCDC, said this at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

    Ilori said that the platform, called Surveillance Outbreak Response Management Analysis System (SORMAS), would be used to communicate directly to individuals through SMS alert.

    She noted that individuals would also get a code, to enable them to print their results if they wished to, while the authenticity of the result could be checked using a bar code.

    The director, however, noted that only negative results would be communicated through the platform for now, while positive results would be communicated through the health professionals.

    She said that the result was only valid for 14 days from the day of sample collection.
