The app was launched in commemoration of the 2020 annual med safety week organized by the World Health Organization’ Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring which has 80 countries in attendance.
NAFDAC has in a post on it’s page stated that cooperating with other medicine regulatory authorities and national pharmacovigilance centres globally to launch campaigns that raises awareness on Pharmacovigilance and promote electronic-reporting of adverse drug reactions and other medicines-related problems.
NAFDAC Nigeria noted that it is leveraging on this event to officially launch the adoption of the Med Safety inorder to improve reporting of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) in Nigeria.
Med Safety Mobile app was developed under WEB-RADR Project – an innovative Medicines Initiative has been successfully launched in over 14 countries like Armenia, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Ivory Coast, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, among others and Nigeria will become the 15th country to launch it globally.
Peoplec now download the “Med Safety App” and install the app from either google playstore for android smartphones users or apple store for iOS device users.
On the app, first time users are to create an account or continue as guest for existing users. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to create and send ADR reports to NAFDAC.
NAFDAC noted that the use of the Med Safety App is expected to complement existing pharmacovigilance reporting tools already deployed during the week, medicine regulators across the globe will simultaneously share campaign materials on their social media channels, with the hashtag.
