    COVID-19: 1,016 New Infections, 11 Additional Deaths Recorded in Nigeria

    Nigeria added over 1,000 infections of the coronavirus again in a resurgence that is erasing hard-won epidemiological gains and eroding public confidence in the government's ability to handle the outbreak.

    Nigeria has recorded 1,016 new cases of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 with 11 coronavirus related death recorded in 20 states and Federal Capital Territory in the last 24 hours.

    However, 1,385 patients were discharged from isolation centers across the country.

    The figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Wednesday brought the nation's caseload to 86,576.

    Lagos reported 434 cases, the highest  number of infections for day, almost half of the new virus confirmed on Wednesday, followed by Abuja, the Federal  Capital Territory (FCT), with 155 cases, while Plateau, Kaduna and Rivers recorded 94, 56 and 56 cases respectively.

    Other states with new cases include: Oyo-30, Nasarawa-27, Zamfara-25, Abia-22, Enugu-18, Kano-18, Bayelsa-15, Edo-14, Ogun-11, Borno-10, Ebonyi-10, Jigawa-7, Anambra-4, Delta-3, Niger-3 and Osun-3.

    Since the beginning of the outbreak in Nigeria in February, more than 938,602 samples have been tested by NCDC, out of which 86,576 were positive.

    According to the NCDC, on the 30th of December 2020, 1,016 new confirmed cased and 11 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. in Nigeria.
    Till date, 86,576 cases have been confirmed, 73,322 cases have been discharged and 1,278 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
