According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC, 501 new confirmed cases of coronavirus were found in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the past 24 hours amid resurgence in high numbers across the country.
However, NCDC reported 3 COVID-19-related deaths on Sunday, raising the overall total in the nation since the start of the coronavirus pandemic to 1,221
While the total number of people recovered and discharged stands at 68,303 after 519 COVID-19 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours across the country.
The public health agency in its breakdown via its official Twitter handle on Sunday said that Lagos recorded the highest number of cases with 218 infections, FCT had 112, Kaduna reported 53, Plateau reported 24 and Katsina confirmed 21 infections.
Other states with new cases include: Kano-16, Yobe-14, Ondo-10, Ogun-9, Edo-7, Bayelsa-5, Rivers-4, Borno-4, Osun-2 and Ekiti-2.
Since the beginning of the outbreak in Nigeria in February, more than 874,617 samples have been tested by NCDC, out of which 78,434 were positive.
According to the NCDC, on the 20th of December 2020, 501 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
Till date, 78,434 cases have been confirmed, 68,303 cases have been discharged and 1,221 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Our discharges today include 208 community recoveries in FCT, 126 in Kaduna State and 35 in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.
