    COVID-19: Nigeria Records 343 New Infections as the Tally Surpass 68,000

    The number of COVID-19 infections surpassed 68,000 in Nigeria, as the worst pandemic in a century escalated across the nation.

    Nigeria on Thursday night records 343 new COVID-19 infections, the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control(NCDC) announced this via it official Twitter handle.

    The latest update takes Nigeria’s tally of COVID-19 infections to 68,303 the fifth-highest in Africa behind only Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.

    A total of 1,179 fatalities has been recorded in the nation after two patients died from the disease on Thursday.

    While a total of 64,291 patients have been discharged from various isolation centre after treatment including 452 new patients that were discharged in the last 24 hours.

    According to new data from the country’s infectious disease agency, NCDC, the new infections were reported from 13 states and Federal Capital Territory.

    Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of the country accounts for 123 infections, the highest number of infections for the day, while Lagos confirmed 106, Kaduna reported 72 and Nasarawa had 14 infections.  

    Other states with new infections include Rivers-5, Bauchi-4, Imo-4, Ogun-4, Ekiti-3, Edo-2, Oyo-2, Plateau-2, Akwa Ibom-1 and Kano-1

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 779,708 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    In summary on the 3rd of December 2020, 343 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

    Till date, 68,303 cases have been confirmed, 64,291 cases have been discharged and 1,179 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    According to NCDC, a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.
