Nigeria's total number of COVID-19 cases surpassed 85,000 on Tuesday after 749 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in 17 states and Federal Capital Territory. The total number of infections in the country now 85,560.
Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), disclosed this on Tuesday night.
The health agency noted that a total of 71,937 patients have now recovered from the virus and have subsequently been discharged as 580 new patients was discharged on Tuesday from isolation centers.
While the death toll from the virus increased by 3, raising the total number of deaths to 1,267.
The spread of the virus further intensified in Lagos as the major financial centre for all of Africa recorded 299 new cases, followed by Plateau with 131 cases and Kaduna with 83 cases.
Other states with their figures as follows: FCT-74, Kwara-35, Sokoto-26, Edo-18, Kano-17, Katsina-16, Delta-11, Nasarawa-10, Ondo-9, Bauchi-9, Rivers-5, Akwa Ibom-3, Jigawa-1, Osun-1 and Ekiti-1.
Since the beginning of the outbreak in Nigeria in February, 937,712 samples have been tested by NCDC, out of which 85,560 were positive.
In summary, on the 29th of December 2020, 749 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
Till date, 85,560 cases have been confirmed, 71,937 cases have been discharged and 1,267 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Our discharges today include 279 community recoveries in Lagos State and 106 community recoveries in FCT managed in line with guidelines.
