    Nigeria Records 1,041 New COVID-19 infections, 6 Deaths

    Thursday's 1,041 new cases blows past the previous record of 1,145, which was set Dec. 17.

    The tally of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Nigeria rose 81,963 on Thursday after 1,041 new cases were reported by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory. 

    With the total number of COVID-19 related deaths stands at 1,242, the number of recoveries discharged also increased by 377.

    According to the statistics released by the health  agency via its verified Twitter handle, Lagos took the lead with 316 new cases, followed by FCT with 210, Kaduna had 83 and Plateau confirmed 70cases.

    Other states affected by the virus on Thursday include: Gombe-56, Oyo-56, Katsina-47, Nasarawa-35, Kano-33, Ogun-21, Rivers-17, Niger-14, Imo-14, Delta-12, Kwara-12, Edo-12, Benue-9, Anambra-8, Taraba-4, Ekiti-4, Ebonyi-6, Bayelsa-1 and Sokoto-1. 

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has conducted about 912,114 tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced.

    According to the NCDC, on the 24th of December 2020, 1,041 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

    Till date, 81,963 cases have been confirmed, 69,651 cases have been discharged and 1,242 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
