    Nigeria Records 920 New COVID-19 Infections, 6 Deaths

    Despite the measures put in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus infection COVID-19, Nigeria has continued to report an increasing number of infections.

    With 6 new patients confirmed dead to the virus in Nigeria and the virus infecting another 920 people in country, the death toll reached 1,218 and nationwide infections rose to 77,933, new data by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC showed on Saturday.

    Also, data obtained from the centre’s website shows that 300 COVID-19 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours across the country. The total number people recovered and discharged from the virus now 67,784.

    The public health agency in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    According to the breakdown released on Saturday by NCDC, Lagos, FCT, Kaduna, Plateau and Niger recorded the highest number of COVID-19 infections with 308, 207, 179, 46, and 43 cases respectively.

    Other states with new cases include: Adamawa-26, Sokoto-18, Rivers-16, Yobe-15, Enugu-13, Kano-13, Ogun-12, Delta-10, Edo-5, Osun-3, Oyo-3, Anambra-2 and Ekiti-1.

    Since the beginning of the outbreak in Nigeria in February, more than 874,617 samples have been tested by NCDC, out of which 77,933 were positive.

    According to the NCDC, on the 19th of December 2020, 920 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
    Till date, 77,933 cases have been confirmed, 67,784 cases have been discharged and 1,218 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
