    Nigeria Reports 1,133 New COVID-19 Infections as Total Cases Surpass 80,000

    Coronavirus infections in the Nigeria surged to another single-day record Wednesday, surpassing 1,000 for the second time in almost a week, according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

    With the latest update the tally of infected people in the country rose to 80,922, as Nigeria, on Wednesday recorded 1,133 new cases of COVID-19 in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed this via its official Twitter handle.

    NCDC also announced the discharge of 395 patients from isolation centers across the country, while 5 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded.

    Data obtained from the health agency's website shows that Lagos, the epicentre  of the virus reported 397 new infections followed closely by Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory with 357 infections, while Kaduna, Plateau, and Kastina reported 81, 63 and 46 cases respectively.

    Others states with new infections are Sokoto-32, Oyo-28, Ogun-21, Kano-19, Rivers-18, Osun-13, Edo-12, Niger-12, Bayelsa-11, Borno-11, Bauchi-8, Jigawa-2 and Ondo-2.

    In summary, as of December 23rd, 2020, 1,133 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
    Till date, 80,922 cases have been confirmed, 69,274 cases have been discharged and 1,236 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
