    Nigeria Reports 9 Deaths, 200 New COVID-19 Cases

    Nigeria reported nine coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday against two the day before, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control said via its official Twitter handle.

    While the nation recorded 187 new novel coronavirus, COVID-19 cases in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    Of the new cases, 42 infections were found in Lagos, 29 in Taraba, 20 in FTC, 17 in Edo, 13 in Abia and 11 cases in Rivers.

    Ten cases in Kaduna, nine cases each in Katsina & Oyo, Kwara and Plateau had seven cases each.

    While Ondo reported five cases, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ogun and Osun confirmed four cases each, also Akwa Ibom, Borno and Nasarawa recorded three cases each.

    Nigeria has registered a total of 2,027 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its outbreak emerged in February 27 last year, the eighth-highest toll in Africa. Having South Africa in the first position followed by Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Ethiopia and Libya in seventh place.

    The country has reported 161,274 cases to date.

    Meanwhile, 146,464  Nigerias were reported to have recovered from COVID-19, which is almost 91 per cent of known cases. Another 323 people have recovered from the virus in past 24 hours.

    Active cases in Nigeria now stand at 12,492, down from the previous day when it was at 12,984.

    Today's report includes 131  recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.

    Data from Taraba State recorded over the last four days, NCDC noted.
