In a statement, Finance and Economic Opportunities MEC David
Maynier said the fund would distribute up to Rand 20 million (approximately US
$ 1.4 million) to organizations and municipalities for programs focused on
supporting small businesses in develop and improve sustainability in order to
create more jobs in the province.
He said the funding will be managed by the Ministry of
Economic Development and Tourism.
The fund demands that all existing province-based SME
business development projects, especially those supporting rural, township,
youth and women businesses, should apply.
“In the previous iteration of the SMME Booster Fund, through
the allocation of funds to 16 grantees like Innovator Trust and Edge Growth,
among others, we were able to help more than 350 companies in the Western Cape
to grow and improve their sustainability. , creating much-needed jobs, ”Maynier
said.
He said he visited former SMME Booster Fund grantees and the
small businesses they were supporting earlier this week.
Maynier said he was impressed with one of the entrepreneurs
who benefited, namely Glynn Mashonga, CEO of GlobeScope Security.
Mashonga said her business has benefited from the Innovator
Trust and the funding has helped her increase sales, open a new office and
employ more staff.
“I look forward to seeing the many successes that will
emerge from the 2021 SMME Booster Fund and I encourage all relevant
organizations in the Western Cape to apply.
“Now more than ever, we need to work together to make sure
businesses are supported and operate in a safe and responsible manner so that
we can save jobs and rebuild the economy of the Western Cape,” said Maynier.
