Nicola Mendelsohn, head of the Europe, Middle East and
Africa region for the company’s global business group, will be the interim
replacement for Everson, a Facebook spokesperson said. Mendelsohn started
working for the company in June 2013.
The news follows Facebook chief revenue officer David
Fischer’s departure from the company in March after 11 years. Another 11-year
veteran, former vp of global partnerships, business and corporate development
Marne Levine, was named as his successor last week in the new role of chief
business officer.
Everson joined Facebook in March 2011 from Microsoft, where
she spent just under one year as corporate vp of global ad sales and strategy.
She also held similar roles with Viacom’s MTV Networks, Primedia, Zagat, Walt Disney
Imagineering and Accenture.
She played a major role in helping Facebook navigate major
issues, including a lack of trust stemming from the Cambridge Analytica scandal
involving users’ data as well as last summer’s advertising boycott, stemming
from the social network’s refusal to take down the infamous “When the looting
starts, the shooting starts” post from former president Donald Trump last May.
A Facebook spokesperson said in an email, “We wish Carolyn
the best as she moves into a new chapter. We are grateful for her
contributions.”
In her departure post, Everson said, “I always said no one
will ever mention at my funeral the amount of revenue I oversaw. But hopefully
one day, someone will say my legacy at Facebook was in how I showed up for my
team, for our clients and for our industry. I am very much looking forward to
starting a new chapter.”
