This comes after the 17-year-old tennis
star, defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur at the French Open. She also managed to
reach the semifinal round of the tournament, after defeating Czech Republic’s
Barbora Krejcikova, 6-3, 6-1, in 53 minutes.
Gauff dominated, as she produced zero
double faults, and won 81 per cent of her first serve points. She didn’t even
drop a single service game. She also managed to breeze through the first 28
minutes of the game, by taking control from the outset.
As the game went on, Jabeur wasn’t able to
take control. Coco Gauff dominated even more in the second game.
Fifteen years ago, Nicole Vaidisova was the
youngest player, who made it to the quarter finals, at the French Open (or
Roland Garros) in 2006. She was 17 years and 44 days, old at that time.
Besides being the youngest player to
achieve this feat, Coco Gauff is also the youngest American woman, to book a
place in the last eight in Paris since Jennifer Capriati in 1993.
Coco Gauff to be a part of the Tokyo
Olympics
Coco Gauff said that she was elated about
the fact that she reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final. “I am super happy
to reach my first Grand Slam quarter-final. I played really well today,” said
Gauff, who has yet to drop a set at the tournament. “Coming here gave me a lot
of confidence and taught me a lot how to close matches and deal with the
pressure on important points,” she added.
On Monday, she came to know that she will
be a part of the American team, that will be playing in the Tokyo Olympics,
which will be held this year.
