The widow of the deceased, Joe Okei-Odumakin made this available via its official social media account.
Comrade Yinka Odumakin stepped into immortality as the CAC formally registered the OLUYINKA ODUMAKIN FOUNDATION (OOF).
The widow and President of the Foundation, Dr. Joe Okei
Odumakin, said the purpose of the Foundation is to honour Yinka's memory by keeping
his ideals alive.
Dr. Okei Odumakin added that the Foundation will undertake
projects relating to the departed Afenifere spokesman and ward against attempts
which might have the dubious motives of
tarnishing his memory.
Among other eminent personalities on the Board of Trustees
(BOT) is Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo - Dosunmu, who is the Chairman of the Board.
Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin said the public should look forward to
more information about the Foundation, which is projected to function
effectively at the crossroads where Nigeria currently finds itself by offering
effective solutions to nagging problems.
The late Afenifere spokesperson, 54, died on Friday, April
2, after battling with respiratory problems occasioned by COVID-19
complications.
Odumakin’s life telegraphs hope. The fact that a few people
like him still exists in this country suggests that all hope is not lost. It is
a testimony to the fact that those who genuinely hold the baton of social
activism have a cause to live and die for.
Like activists who still bear the scars of progressive
struggle, Odumakin was a frequent guest of the Abacha detention facilities.
Yet, unlike many who started with him, he remained steadfast despite his human
shortcomings. The void he is leaving in the political activism space will be
very difficult to fill.
