    Nigeria Reports a Single-Day Rise of 1,149 New COVID-19 Cases, 7 More Deaths

    Nigeria reported a daily record of 1,149 coronavirus cases for Wednesday, breaking a mark set last week, as the authorities struggled to get on top of a surge in outbreaks linked to the Delta variant.

    With the latest figure of new infections, the health officials noted that Nigeria’s total infection toll now stands at 184,593.

    Besides, 7 new fatalities have taken the COVID-related death count to 2,236, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease  Control NCDC’s daily update.

    As many as 167,738 people have recovered so far across the country with 279 patients recovering during the last 24 hours.

    Active cases in the nation rises to 14,619, active cases increase by 883 from the previous day.

    Fifteen states and the Federal Capital  Territory were responsible for the 1,149 new infections with Lagos having the highest number 680, followed by Rivers with 157, Akwa-Ibom with 94, Oyo with 56, Edo with 36, FCT with 34 and Ogun with 31.

    Ekiti reported 20 cases, Delta had 16, Abia, Nasarawa and Osun reported 5 cases each, Cross River had 4, Plateau had 3, Sokoto had 2 and Kano reported 1 case.

    According to the health authorities, today's report includes, confirmed cases for  Lagos State: 393 cases on 17th and 287 cases on 18th August, 2021.

    While Ondo is the only state with zero case reported .
