    COVID-19: Nigeria Records 11 Deaths, 582 New Infections

    COVID-19 active are increasing in Nigeria, with 330 new active cases reported on Wedneday. There are now 11,533 active coronavirus in the country.

    Nigeria reported 582 new coronavirus infections and 11 additional deaths related to the disease on Wednesday, down from 626 cases and 14 deaths on Tuesday, as cases continue to spike mainly due to the more contagious Delta variant.

    There have been 193,013 infections and 2,480 fatalities due to the viral infection reported in the country since the pandemic began, according to an update released by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC via its official website.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease increased by 241 on Wednesday, as the country’s total recoveries reached a record 179,000.

    According to the NCDC, 15 states and the FCT reported the new cases.

    The top five states which have registered maximum COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours are Lagos with 175 cases, followed by Rivers with 124 cases, Edo with 60, Delta with 57 and Akwa-Ibom with 44 cases.

    Other states with their figures as follows - Anambra-25, Bayelsa-22, Gombe-19, Ekiti-12, FCT-12, Kaduna-11, Kano-6, Benue-5, Plateau-5, Ogun-3, and Jigawa-2.

    NCDC added that today’s report includes a backlog of 20 cases reported for Delta State from 29th (3), 30th (17),31st (10) August and 1st September (27), 2021.

    And a backlog of 22 cases reported for Bayelsa State from 31st August (8), and 1st September (14), 2021.

    Also a backlog of 44 cases reported for Akwa Ibom State from 31st August (18), and 1st September (16), 2021.

    And a backlog of 8 deaths for Delta State from 18th to 31st August 2021.

    The health officials noted that Five states, Abia, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Sokoto reported no cases on Wednesday.
