    Nigeria Records 5 Deaths, 559 COVID-19 Cases

    The latest data by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC revealed that the tally of infected people in the country has reached 197,046, with infection rates still concentrated in the most populous city in Africa and hardest hit state by COVID-19, Lagos.

    Nigeria on Wednesday reported 559 new cases of coronavirus infections in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    With 220 discharges on Wednesday after fighting off the highly contagious disease, the tally of COVID-19 recoveries in Nigeria rose to 185,379.

    Active cases in the country continue to grow, rose from 8,755 it was the previous day to 9,089.

    However, NCDC also announced that five fresh COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus related deaths reported in the country to 2,578.

    Data obtained from the NCDC’s website shows that within a 24 hour period, a major financial centre for all of Africa and the economic hub of Nigeria, Lagos had 232 new cases,

    While Rivers, Enugu and Oyo reported 83, 66 and 28 cases respectively.

    Kaduna on Wednesday recorded 25 cases of the virus, FCT had 24, Delta had 22, Akwa Ibom had 19 and Kwara had 18 cases.

    Thirteen cases of the virus were found in Ekiti, nine cases each in Bayelsa and Cross River, six in Ogun, three in Kano and two Gombe.

    NCDC added that today's report includes two deaths and six discharged cases in Lagos on 7th September 2021

    And zero cases from Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Plateau and Sokoto States.
