Nigeria reported a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases late Friday with Lagos, Kwara, FCT, Edo and Kaduna topping the chat.

The total number of Nigeria residents who have contracted COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak in the country have risen to 205,484 after health officials announced 437 new cases of the virus in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory

Today’s case count is higher than Tuesday’s report which saw 295 new infections reported.

Active cases in Nigeria now stand at 9,286 — up from the previous day when it was at  9,083.

According to the Nigeria Centre  for Disease Control NCDC, six deaths linked to the virus were recorded overnight and resolved cases increased by 222 in the past 24 hours.

With this, the country's COVID-19 deaths toll rose to 2,701 and a total of 193,482 COVID-19 patients were reported to have recovered from the disease and discharged across the country.

Wednesday’s report shows that, 126 cases were recorded in Lagos, 76 in Rivers, 44 in Kwara, 37 in FCT, 32 in Edo and 30 in Kaduna.

Other states with their figures as follows: Anambra-22, Delta-22, Osun-12, Benue-7, Abia-6, Nasarawa-6, Kano-5, Ekiti-3, Plateau -3, Bayelsa-2, Ogun-2 and Oyo-2.

NCDC noted that today's report includes 126 cases reported in Lagos state are for September 28th (94) and 29th (32).

The 22 cases reported in Anambra state are for September 28th (12) and 29th (10).

And 12 rather than 6 recoveries were erroneously reported for Jigawa state on September 24th

While Bauchi and Sokoto states reported no cases of the virus on Wednesday.
