Nigeria reported 165
new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and 4,188 recoveries in 9 states and the
Federal Capital Territory, as the nation test positivity rate for the virus
dropped, health officials report showed.
The country’s active COVID-19 cases dropped significantly to 5,199 from 9,248 it was the previous day.
With the latest cases,
Nigeria’s national tally of coronavirus has reached 210,460, with the total
number of recoveries in the country stands at 202,379.
In total, 2,882 people have died from complications after contracting the coronavirus, including 26 fatalities reported on Sunday, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC disclosed via its official Facebook page.
In a release, the health
officials said there are 77 cases in Lagos, the most affected states by COVID-19
in the country.
NCDC noted that the 77
cases reported in Lagos include 21 cases on 21st, 33 cases on 22nd, 23 cases on
23rd of October 2021.
The state reported 3,969
recoveries which include community discharge.
Lagos also reported 23
deaths on Sunday which include four deaths each on 18th & 19th, fourteen deaths
on 21st and one death on 23rd of October 2021.
Forty-three of the new
cases were reported in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and second most affected
by the virus since the beginning of pandemic.
The 43 cases and 3
deaths reported from FCT are for 23rd October 2021, the health officials said.
Rivers reported 22 cases
on Sunday, Oyo had 10, Osun had 6 Bayelsa and Edo had 2 cases each, Kaduna, Kano
and Ogun reported 1 case each.
While Taraba and
Sokoto states reported no cases of the virus on Sunday.
