    COVID-19: Nigeria Reports Five Additional Deaths, 251 New Cases

    Nigeria logged new cases of COVID-19 in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory as another 251 residents tests positive to the disease on Wednesday.

    The number of new cases saw an increase from 175 cases recorded the previous day .

    Wednesday’s report brings the nation’s total number of cases logged since the start of the outbreak to 208,404, according a report by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC.

    Of the new cases reported today, 78 were found in FCT, 46 in Lagos, 27 in Kaduna and 21 in Rivers state.

    Imo accounted for 16 of the new cases, Edo had 13, Delta had 12 and Plateau had 10 cases.

    Seven of the cases are in Niger, six cases each in Bauchi and Kwara, four cases in Akwa Ibom, three in Benue and two in Nasarawa.

    Today’s report includes zero case from Sokoto, NCDC noted.

    The nation also announced the discharge of 187 patients from hospitals having fought off the highly contagious disease.  The total number of recoveries now 196,123.

    Meanwhile, with 5 fatalities recorded, the death toll from the virus in Nigeria currently stands 2,761.

    Nigeria's active increased to 9,520 from 9,461 its was the previous day.
