    COVID-19 Spike Continues as Nigeria Records No Death, 1424 New Cases

    COVID-19 numbers continue to climb with over 1,400 additional positive cases in the past 24 hours.

    Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its COVID-19 infections update, said that 1424 new cases were confirmed in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

    While the number of successfully treated and recovered COVID-19 cases increased by 38

    Wednesday's case count is up from the 730 infections reported on Tuesday.

    As of Wednesday, Nigeria has recorded 220,020 COVID-19 cases and a total of 211,292 patients have fought off the highly contagious disease since the start of the pandemic.

    Active cases in Nigeria now stand at 5,745 — up from the previous day when it was at  4,359.

    Nigeria on Wednesday recorded no COVID-19 death from the virus. The fatality toll in the country remains 2,983.

    According to the data released by the health officials, Lagos topped the list with 796, while Delta, FCT, Edo and Oyo reported 152, 130, 129 and 82 respectively.

    Ondo and Rivers reported 39 cases each, Kaduna had 15 cases, Enugu had 9, Anambra had 8, Kwara and Ogun reported 7 cases each, Bayelsa and Kano reported 4 cases each and Akwa Ibom reported 3 cases.

    While Bauchi, Ekiti, Osun and Zamfara States reported no cases of COVID-19 in past 24 hours.

    NCDC noted that today’s report includes 153 cases reported in Delta state on 13th (13), and 14th (139) December 2021.
