Ten days after the confirmation of the ‘transmissible’ Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease in Nigeria, cases are now consistently on the rise again in the country.
According to the data shared
by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the country registered 533
cases on Friday.
In an update on its official
website, the health officials said Friday’s figure raised the total number of
cases in the country to 216,451.
No coronavirus death were
recorded in the past 24 hours leaving the nation's virus-related death toll at 2,981.
Meanwhile, the NCDC
data shows that a total of 207,661 discharges
have been made across the country, including 42 recoveries reported in the past
24 hours.
The health officials noted that today’s report includes
20 community discharges reported in FCT on 8th December 2021
As at Friday active
COVID-19 cases stands at 5,799 – dropped by 1,137 from 4,662 it was the previous day.
NCDC stated that the new
cases were found in 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Lagos the most affected
by the coronavirus outbreak with 428, reported the highest number on Friday.
Followed by Abuja, the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reported 45 and Rivers reported 33 cases of the
virus in the past 24 hours.
Edo state reported 9 cases
of the virus, 8 cases were found in Ogun, Oyo had 3 cases.
Delta and Kaduna reported
2 cases each, Gombe, Jigawa and Kano reported 1 case each.
While Ekiti, Imo, Ondo, Osun and Sokoto States reported zero cases in the past 24 hours, NCDC said in its update.
