    Nigeria Reports Spike in COVID-19 Cases, as 754 Infected, One Dead

    Nigeria recorded more than 700 new coronavirus cases Thursday, nearly triple the number from a day earlier.

    Coronavirus cases are rising dramatically in Nigeria with 754 people currently infected and one coronavirus related death recorded in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday .

    After fully recovered and tested negative to COVID-19, health officials also announced the discharged of 99 new patients.

    According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC,  the new COVID-19 infections reported by the nation push its pandemic cases tally to 215,918.

    Since the virus was first detected, it has claimed 2,981 lives in Nigeria, and more than 207,619 people have recovered in the country after falling ill, the health officials said.

    As at Thursday active COVID-19 cases stands at 4,662 – dropped by 2 from 4,664 it was the previous day.

    Most of the new cases recorded today were found in Lagos, FCT and Imo states with 595, 68 and 49 cases respectively.

    Other includes Edo-3, Oyo-9, Delta-5, Katsina-4, Kano-3, Plateau-3, Ekiti-2, Gombe-2 and Rivers-1.

    While Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Sokoto reported no cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.

    NCDC noted today’s report includes 595 confirmed cases reported in Lagos state on 8th (294) & 9th (301) December 2021.

    The 68 confirmed cases reported in FCT are for 8th (28) & 9th (40) December 2021.

    Five confirmed cases reported in Delta state are for 8th December 2021.

    The health officials also said that 16 discharged cases reported in FCT are for 8th December 2021. And 1 discharged case reported in Lagos state is for 6th December 2021.

    It stated that one death case reported in Lagos state is for 6th December 2021.
