    COVID-19: Nigeria Reports No Death, 423 New Infections

    Nigeria COVID-19 infections continue to decline and virus-related deaths over the past week amid fears of omicron variant spreading throughout the country.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC reported 423 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the West Africa country on Thursday, continuing a downward trend.

    It stated that the new infections were reported in 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    According to the breakdown, 120 of the new infections were recorded in Lagos and Rivers reported 118 cases on Thursday.

    Within a span of 24 hours, Anambra, FCT, Gombe and Kaduna reported 38, 32, 31 and 21 cases respectively.

    Others states with new cases recorded as follows Oyo-14, Benue-11, Cross River-10, Kwara-9, Borno-5, Kano-5, Bauchi-3, Jigawa-3, Abia-1, Ogun-1 and Sokoto-1.

    The health officials reported no new death from COVID-19 complications, while 364 people were discharged from hospitals across the country.

    Active caseload increased by 59 on Thursday. Total now stands at 25,714.

    NCDC added that today’s report includes 0 cases reported from Plateau, Katsina, and Sokoto States.

    With the latest update, the tally of infected people in the country rose to 250,009, while the number of recoveries and discharged reached 221,203.

    So far, there have  been 3,092 confirmed deaths since the first reported death in March 2020.
