Nigeria on Saturday confirmed one more coronavirus-related
death and 766 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours.
Saturday's figures were 48 lower than Friday’s
when 814 fresh cases were logged in the country.
The new cases were derived from a sample size
of 39,772 tested within a week.
According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, the country of over 200 million people has so far recorded 3,071 deaths and 247,775 coronavirus infections.
There are now 26,277 COVID-19 patients
receiving treatment in hospital in Nigeria, up from 25,620 on Friday.
On the brighter side, the country witnessed additional
595 fresh recoveries on Saturday. As many as 218,427 patients have recovered from
the viral disease since the start of the pandemic, NCDC bulletin said.
However, the health officials stated that the
discharged cases include recoveries reported
in Kaduna state on 7th (95) & 8th (115) January 2022.
It added 27 discharged cases were also
reported in Anambra state on 6th January 2022.
Saturday’s new cases were confirmed in 12
states and Federal Capital Territory.
In Lagos, there were 261 new positive cases.
As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in Nigeria’s largest city and
the most populous city in Africa.
Anambra, on Saturday recorded 208 new cases. The
208 confirmed cases reported in Anambra state are for 6th (3) January 2022,
with 205 backlogs on 5th (1) & 27th (1) November 2021, and 8th (1), 9th
(1), 13th (2), 14th (5), 15th (21), 16th (9), 17th (6), 18th (14), 19th (18),
22nd (27), 23rd (18), 24th (27), 25th (1), 26th (22), 29th (29) & 30th (2)
December 2021.
While Rivers reported 159 cases in last 24 hours,
Kaduna, Gombe and FCT reported 42, 25 and 20 cases respectively.
Also, NCDC
data shows that Osun states reported 19 cases, Oyo had 14, Bauchi and Kano had 5
cases each, Ekiti reported 4, Ebonyi and Ogun had 2 cases each.
The report revealed that four states: Nasarawa,
Ondo, Plateau and Sokoto State reported zero cases of coronavirus infections on
Saturday.
NCDC noted that today’s report includes 42
confirmed cases reported in Kaduna state on 7th (35) & 8th (7) January 2022.
