Upcoming FIFA Rival UFL Teases Gameplay; Cristiano Ronaldo Announced as Cover Star

UFL, the free football simulator, has teased its gameplay. The game has been in development for six years and is expected to arrive in 2022, “when it’s ready”.

UFL developer Strikerz Inc also announced that they have signed Cristiano Ronaldo as their cover star. Designed to rival FIFA and eFootball, UFL is based on the Unreal Engine and the gameplay trailer shows off the look, player likeness, game menus, customization options and the platforms it will be on available when it debuts.

Strikerz Inc is a relatively new studio, based in Belarus. Through a YouTube post, the developer showed off UFL gameplay.

The free-to-play soccer simulator is in its final stages of development and is expected to release this year, as it’s completed, according to the studio. Along with the video, the developers also gave IGN a preview of the game.

When it launches later this year, UFL will be available to play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

The video shows that the UFL will get ranked and unranked modes, will have offline modes, as well as support for 2v2 and 3v3 matches. Strikerz Inc also mentioned that the game will receive unspecified “special events”.

The main mode of the football simulator will be a flagship mode – the UFL online world football league. This mode will allow players to create their own teams and play in a “fair division-based matchmaking system”. There will be multiple seasons in a year with a player crowned UFL Champion at the end of the year.

Stikerz Inc promises that matchmaking will be based on the skills of players and teams without any handicaps. Once players have progressed enough, they will be eligible for the UFL Premier Division which will provide players with spots in professional tournaments and other rewards. Alongside this, there will also be separate team leaderboards that will allow players to play with their friends competitively.

The developers also mention that the UFL will be “fair to play” and allow players to build their squad using a roster of around 5,000 real players. Strikerz Inc also stated that as players win and play the game more, they have more opportunities to strengthen their teams with new players or upgrades for existing players.

Through screenshots shared with IGN, it can be seen that the UFL will give players the ability to manage teams and add cosmetic customization for their teams. Stickerz Inc also mentioned that a Team Pass, quests, and challenges will roll out when the game launches.

According to the screenshots, the team management menu appears to be similar to FIFA’s Ultimate Team mode. Customization options are likely to include kits, items, and stadiums. At this point, it remains to be seen how players would earn or purchase these customization options.

Strikerz Inc has signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelo Lukaku, Roberto Firmino and Oleksandr Zinchenko as UFL ambassadors. West Ham United, Sporting CP, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, Beşiktaş, Monaco, Celtic, Rangers and Hashtag United have been signed as partner clubs for the match. Other players and clubs are expected to join the list later.
