A statement by the council and signed by its Registrar/CEO,
Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo made available to BrandCrunch lamented that the
commercial featuring a female model (Osas Ighodaro) which was caused to be
exposed by Globacom and currently being aired on some TV stations and social
media platforms targeted at the Nigerian market which is eliciting complaints
about the exposure of the model’s cleavage, was never submitted for approval.
The statement reads in part,
“The advertisment was neither submitted nor approved for
exposure by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), the statutory body charged
with the responsibility of ensuring that advertisements conform with the
prevailing laws of the federation as well as the code of ethics of Advertising
in Nigeria.
“APCON has written to the management of Globalcom Limited to
stop further exposure of the advertisement/commercial on all media platforms
(broadcast and social media. We have also written to media stations and the
relevant government agencies in this regard.
The statement added that APCON is committed to ensuring that
the advertising ecosystem is sanitized and shall use all lawful means including
causing the prosecution of violators of the Advertising laws of the federation.
