Marvel's Armor Wars Will Now Be a Feature Film, Not a Disney+ Series

Marvel Studios has decided to turn the Disney+ series into its own standalone movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say the studio "was committed in getting the story told the right way" and during the development process, they "realised that a feature was better suited".

There is some slightly bad news for fans, however, as this means that the project will now be pushed further down the Marvel Studios release schedule. The series hadn't yet received a release window, but was expected to appear somewhere along Phases Five and Six of the MCU. Now it's unclear if it will be included in 'The Multiverse Saga' at all.

Don Cheadle's Rhodey AKA War Machine is still expected to lead the new movie, but it's likely that plenty other Marvel characters will be making appearances along the way. The former right-hand man to Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man (whom the original Marvel Comics 'Armor Wars' series is based) has not appeared in a Marvel project since 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'. This guest appearance bizarrely enough earned him an Emmy Award.

Off the back of this news, Marvel fans have already begun to speculate that Robert Downey Jr. will be making an appearance in the movie, reprising his role as Tony Stark (but maybe this time in holographic form?). The character famously sacrificed himself at the end of 'Avengers: Endgame'. Expect these wild rumours to swirl around the internet for a long while until more concrete details about the project begin to emerge.

War Machine is next expected to appear in Marvel's upcoming 'Secret Invasion' series, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman. The series will debut on Disney+ in early 2023.
