    Nigeria's COVID-19 Cases Rise with 75 New Infections


    Major African financial centre, Lagos State, is driving Nigeria’s latest COVID-19 surge as the country recorded 75 infections between September 17th - 19th, 2022.

    Nigeria added 75 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 265,008, while no new deaths from the virus were recorded according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control data updated on Tuesday.

    The NCDC update shows that the latest cases have increased the country’s infection toll to 265,008, while the fatality toll still stands at 3,155.

    NCDC disclosed that the 75 new cases are reported from eight states.

    The disease centre, in its breakdown of the latest infections, revealed that Lagos state has continued to maintain the first position.

    Apart from Lagos State which recorded 36 cases, Akwa-Ibom came second on the log with 15 infections.

    Edo and Ekiti reported 8 and 5 cases respectively, Kano, Plateau, Rivers recorded 3 cases each and Kaduna had 2 cases.

    While 6 states reported zero cases: Bauchi, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo & Sokoto.

    It also stated that 3,812 people were currently down with the virus, while 258,041 people had been treated and discharged nationwide since the outbreak in 2020.

    NCDC noted the report includes a backlog of 15 confirmed & 46 discharged cases reported for Akwa Ibom state from 4th - 18th September 2022.
