House of the Dragon Episode 10 Preview starts off with the words that have been looming around in the latest episode, titled “The Green Council.” An hour-long episode shows that while Alicent enlists Cole and Aemond to track down Aegon, Otto gathers the great houses of Westeros to affirm their allegiance.

It is directed by Claire Kilner, and the teleplay is written by Sara Hess. In HoTD episode 9, the King finally takes his last breath, after fighting the deadly disease for years. His last words make Alicent believe that his dying wish is to put their son Aegon on the throne. Ordering her servants not to say anything, she consults with her father, the Hand, and gathers the small council.

With the exception of Lord Lyman Beesbury and the Lord Commander, the green council agrees to Aegon’s succession. Lord Beesbury is killed by Ser Cristan Cole, and the Lord Commander resigns. Green Council hides the news of Viserys’s death from Princess Rhaenyra, the true heir, keeping the king’s body in his room for several days, while they strengthen their Allies and prepare for Aegon’s coronation.

Alicent tries to win Princess Rhaenys Valyrian who is held captive in the castle, due to the fear that she’ll go straight to Rhaenyra and tell her what’s going on. After several days, the death of King Viserys I is finally announced and Aegon is declared king in front of all of King’s Landing present at the Dragonpit.

Ser Erryk Cargyll, who’s had enough of Aegon and does not want to see him become king, smuggles Princess Rhaenys out of the castle. She uses this distraction to get Melys, her dragon and flies off. But not until she disrupts the coronation and for a brief moment, is tempted to torch them all but instead chooses to fly off, signalling the start of the civil war.

We see her busting out, and being the one that’s going to take the news to Dragonstone of the coup and of Rhaenyra’s throne being stolen. The preview picks off with Rhaenys being at the Dragonstone and telling Rhaenyra and Daemon, “The Greens are coming for you, Rhaenyra. And for your children.”

It also shows how many houses, who swore their allegiance to the Queen are still on her side and are urging her to plunge the realm into war and lay siege to the Red Keep. Even her children ask her to send them into the war for their mother, while we see Daemon risking his life to claim Vermithor, the Dragon of King Jaehaerys Targaryen, and the video ends on the Dragons’ roars.

The final episode of the series will certainly bring in all the action, as we will be witnessing the Hightowers and the Targaryens facing off against each other.
