Global Alliance Africa and African Summit on Entrepreneurship & Innovation Partner to Showcase African Entrepreneurship on Global Stage

Home to the fastest-growing entrepreneurial ecosystem globally, Africa is quickly becoming a globally recognised continent of opportunity, marked with countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt and Kenya becoming hotspots for Venture Capital (VC) investmentii . However, with all the successes that African entrepreneurs bring, a common challenge most seem to face is a lack of networks and resources needed to promote their businesses internationally.

According to the International Institute for Management Development, the health of local entrepreneurial ecosystems plays a vital role for not only driving sustainable economic growth, but for attracting impact investors tooiii. To further drive knowledge transfer and collaboration that fosters long-lasting, strategic partnerships between Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa and the UK, Global Alliance Africa at Innovate UK KTN partnered with African Summit on Entrepreneurship & Innovation to host its 8th annual conference in Nairobi, Kenya on 10 November 2022.

Under the theme of ‘Innovating for Africa's next frontier’, the hybrid gathering will bring together more than 500 delegates and 30 speakers, investors and exhibitors from the public, private and civil sectors across Africa and the world, to discuss and explore opportunities to increase economic participation and create sustainable jobs and growth through science and innovation.

Global Alliance Africa’s Country Lead for Kenya, Sheilah Birgen, notes: “Our aim as Global Alliance Africa is to accelerate innovations that promote inclusive economic growth, job creation, with a local to global outlook. We do this by creating strategic connections by providing platforms that bring together stakeholders, entrepreneurs, academics and even corporations that have a common purpose.”

“We are honoured to receive this opportunity to participate in conversations on innovation across the continent, as we strongly believe that the only way African entrepreneurs can showcase their talent globally is through strategic collaboration. Such collaborations have played a vital role in the scaling of our entrepreneurs in Kenya,” adds Birgen.

The summit will also provide an opportunity to showcase local innovators, in light of this there will be ecosystem players from Global Alliance Africa’s ‘Place-Based Innovation’ intervention present to share their thoughts and insights into a range of innovation-related topics via various panel discussions which will tackle issues such as youth innovation in agriculture; sustaining the Kenyan green energy ecosystem; innovating for improved healthcare; unlocking educational opportunities via technology; deep-dives into the role, opportunities and experiences of women in business; as well as new technological trends in the Kenyan media landscape.

ASENTI President Calvin Jodisi concluded: “Given the many challenges that African entrepreneurs come across, this is an opportunity of a lifetime for ecosystem stakeholders to come together, under one roof to learn, network, collaborate and even influence the future setup of the ecosystem. Entrepreneurs cannot thrive when they live in silos, hence the importance of collaborating to showcase our talent to the rest of the globe. Not only will this lead to an influx of investments, but it will also create a healthy ecosystem for our entrepreneurs.”
