HMD Global announced its decision to produce 5G Nokia smartphones in Europe, becoming the first major smartphone manufacturer to do so.

Moving the manufacturing of 5G Nokia smartphones to Europe will be a gradual process, starting in the third quarter of 2023. HMD plans to invest in facilities from now on.

HMD has seen increasing demand for its smartphones in Europe and sees the move as a way to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure the security and privacy of its phones. HMD noted that since 2019, the data center located in Finland has been used.
