The partnership focuses in particular on the digital aspect, and strengthens their common commitments in the development of digital skills of Malagasy youth.
Professor Hajalalaina Aimé Richard, President of the
University of Fianarantsoa, and Frédéric Debord, Managing Director of Orange Madagascar, today signed a partnership agreement which will
benefit several thousand students and out-of-school youth in the Haute
Matsiatra region. The partnership focuses in particular on the digital aspect, and
strengthens their common commitments in the development of digital skills of
Malagasy youth through the establishment of an Orange Digital Center Club (ODC
Club) in Fianarantsoa.
Extension of Orange Digital Center Madagascar will boost the digital sector in Fianarantsoa, a city known to be a breeding ground for young geeks and digital enthusiasts
Deployed in Madagascar since October 2021 with funding from
the Orange Foundation, German cooperation (GIZ) and the Orange Group's own
funds, Orange Digital Center (ODC) Madagascar is a digital skills support and
development center that covers a wide range of activities, from coding training
to business creation. Free and open to all, Orange Digital Center bases
learning on concrete projects.
Training programs dedicated to digital professions are thus
offered to students, people who are unemployed or out of school, or even young
entrepreneurs. Since its deployment, 1,900 learners have been trained within
the Orange Digital Center, 60% of whom are young women.
Among the leavers, more than 600 are professionally
integrated. It is the only ODC among the 13 equivalent systems deployed on the
African continent to have achieved this performance, a sign of the national
potential in terms of digital transition.
True to its commitment to make digital an opportunity for
everyone, Orange Madagascar has entered into a partnership with the University
of Fianarantsoa in order to extend the activities of Orange Digital Center to
the city of Fianarantsoa, and the entire Haute Matsiatra. An ODC Club will
thus be deployed in Fianarantsoa within the University.
Orange Digital Center Club Fianarantsoa will be composed of:
A Code School , a technological center that offers training
and events.
A Solidarity FabLab , a digital manufacturing workshop that
allows projects to be prototyped and learned by “doing”.
Support for start-ups that accompanies young shoots and
allows them to develop partnerships.
The partnership agreement relating to the deployment of Orange Digital Center Club Fianarantsoa was signed this Friday, April 28, 2023 by Professor Hajalalaina Aimé Richard, President of the University of Fianarantsoa, and Frédéric Debord, Managing Director of Orange Madagascar, in the premises of Orange Digital Center Madagascar in Ankorondrano. This partnership is a concrete response to the challenges of digital transformation in Madagascar.
This extension of Orange Digital Center Madagascar will
boost the digital sector in Fianarantsoa, a city known to be a breeding
ground for young geeks and digital enthusiasts. Orange Madagascar will
henceforth be the preferred partner of the University of Fianarantsoa for all
digital-related events initiated by this University.
The objectives pursued by Orange Digital Center Madagascar
are to improve the employability of young people and women by offering
professional training adapted to the needs of recruiting companies and to
create bridges and synergies between the academic world, the technological
world and the economic: challenge met with this unique high-impact partnership
signed with the University of Fianarantsoa.
