There is growing tension between Roma head coach Jose Mourinho and UEFA.
Following the recent events in the aftermath of the Europa
League final in Budapest, Jose Mourinho walked away from UEFA’s Football Board
after handing in a letter of resignation to UEFA Chief of Football Zvonimir
Boban.
However, Mundo Deportivo reveals that the football
organization had already decided to fire Mourinho from the Board before the
Portuguese technician’s letter.
Mourinho’s decision comes in light of UEFA’s decision to ban
him for four European fixtures for his confrontation with referee Anthony
Taylor at full-time at the Puskas Arena.
Mourinho was once at the centre of controversy following
Roma's Europa League final loss to Sevilla at the end of May.
The Giallorossi were beaten on penalties following a tense
120 minutes of action filled with contentious decisions.
Mourinho waited for referee Anthony Taylor post-match and
launched a tirade of verbal abuse at him. The Portuguese has been handed a
four-match touchline ban by UEFA for his actions.
Following the final, Taylor was also confronted by hoards of
angry Roma fans at an airport.
Mourinho was heavily criticised for his ill discipline
throughout the 2022/23 season, picking up three red cards, while members of his
coaching staff were also dismissed at various points throughout the campaign.
